Now that we have a deck and a grill, we’ve been doing a lot of grilling and smoking meats. These teriyaki burgers are one of our favorites when we’re looking for a quick, delicious dinner.
I like to buy large packages of ground beef when they’re on sale and make a bunch of burgers for the freezer. Then, it’s easy to thaw and grill however many we need for dinner. At a minimum, we recommend topping the burger with cheese, mayo, and butter lettuce — but grilled pineapple slices, grilled onions, or onion buns are also tasty additions.
Grilled teriyaki burgers
Makes 3 burgers
By Jane and Michael’s Gourmet Extravaganza
For the burgers:
- 1 lb of 85% lean ground beef
- 1 Tbsp Trader Joe’s teriyaki sauce (or Very Very Teriyaki sauce)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
Combine the ground beef and seasonings in a medium bowl and mix well. Divide into 3 equal portions (I use a food scale) and form each into a patty (I press them into the medium square size of these Ikea containers). Carefully remove from the container, if using, and place on a piece of wax paper, reshaping as needed.
If desired, you can freeze the burgers for later use. Thaw in the refrigerator one day before cooking.
For cooking and serving:
- 3 slices of swiss cheese
- 3 fresh pineapple slices, cored (optional)
- 3 hamburger buns
- Butter lettuce
Heat grill to 400 degrees. Cook the burgers for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees. Place the cheese slices on the burgers during the last 1-2 minutes of cooking so they melt. If you’re using pineapple slices, you can grill them alongside the burgers.
When the burgers are cooked, remove them to a plate. Place the buns on the grill, cut sides down, for 1-2 minutes or until toasted.
Serve burgers with mayo, butter lettuce, and pineapple slices (if using). Enjoy!
Pairs well with:
